Hiking and Camping with Dogs

There’s nothing like spending time outdoors to relax and get away from all the noise of the busy city. If you have a dog and you are planning on going on a trip, you'll know camping with dogs is hard. My dogs love camping just about as much as I do, if not more. 'Scooby' loves the fresh mountain air, running through fields of wildflowers and swimming in lakes. As an owner I know how much extra stress this brings to your trip, it's like having a child to keep your eyes on 24/7 but as much as he sometimes is a little 'monster' I couldn't bare to leave him in the kennels.

Before you spend a few days camping you should be sure to check with the regulations of the campsite you’re going to as well as the weather conditions. This will give you a good idea of the terrain and what you need to pack for the dogs and don't forget yourself. Over the years I have found what some thing's that make life a lot easier when hiking with dogs.

Just like you, your dog likes the comforts of home at the campground. Bring their kennel or dog bed, a leash, and his food and water bowls. Bring his favorite dog toys for chewing around camp or chasing at the lakeshore. Consider bringing a runner or stakes and cables, so your dog can be outside and free to roam around the campsite without wandering into the neighbour’s campsite. Bring treats for rewarding good behavior and any medications they may need. A nightlight for your dog’s collar is also a good idea, so you can see your dog at night see products above to buy now.
